Better News than the Black Friday Advertisements
Matthew 28:19 - "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations." In just a few short days it will be Thanksgiving, a day filled with feasting, food, football, and family.  Then it will be the day after Thanksgiving,  a day that has become known as Black Friday. For many it will be a day of sleepless shopping, as people get up extremely early to get special prices on the must have items for Christmas.  Even now rumors of the "Black Friday" prices are available on the Internet.   But wait.....these are not Black Friday prices instead they are Thanksgiving day prices as many retailers have decided to open on Thanksgiving Day so shoppers can enjoy these special deals no only on Black Friday but on the day before as well. We are obsessed with getting the perfect gift, hopefully at a great price, and so on Thanksgiving or even before we scour the sale papers looking for the good news about the great deals. We as followers of Jesus have been given something infinitely more valuable than that, we have been given "good news of great joy."  We know the message that the Savior has been born and we know the truth, "Black Friday" doesn't really change anyone, Good Friday does.  The gifts we give at Christmas will probably not change anyone's life, the gift that Jesus gave on the cross however,  the gift of His life, can bring change. However it cannot bring change if we do not share it with the people around us.  We have been given the best news in the world.  We know the Gospel of Jesus Christ, which is "the power of God unto salvation. " But if that Gospel is going to change anyone it must be shared.  We have the best news in the world so we must share it with the world.  We cannot and must not keep it to ourselves.   Charles Spurgeon puts it this way, "do you want to go to heaven alone? I fear you will never go there.  Have you no wish for others to be saved? Then you are not saved yourself." We as followers of Jesus must share the Gospel not out of duty, or out of dread, or out of fear, but because it is the only hope of the world.  We must share the good news of the Gospel out of love.  Love for the people around us, in that we don't want them to be lost.  And ultimately out of love for God as we want people to be saved and Him to be glorified.  So this Christmas check the papers, brave the crowds of Black Friday and get some gifts to share, but even more than that share the greatest gift that was ever given,  the gift of Jesus.   To God be the glory!
