Training for the Race of Life.....Day 21 (Christmas caroling)

Training for the Race of Life…..Day 21 (Christmas caroling)
My legs desperately needed another day of rest and with the busyness that is Sundays for me, I decided to grant their request.  There was no running today, just a little walking and some Christmas caroling.  Once every year on a Sunday night in December we take a Sunday evening and go Christmas caroling for our Sunday night service.  It is always a lot of fun.  I think this year we were able to go to 8 or 9 different people as we split up into 2 groups.
The group I was in went to see one of the treasured members of the church who has recently been put in a local nursing home.  As we were singing in his room a woman came to his door and just listened as we sang.  Then she stopped us as we were leaving and talked about how good we were (I really just moved my mouth because I didn’t want to hurt anyone’s ears), and she asked us if we went other places to sing.  I told her we never had but that we might be able to set something up.  She said, “well my brother is in another nursing home,” and she wanted to know if we could sing to him.  I said “well maybe where is he at?”  Her reply was, “Michigan”.  Needless to say we must have really impressed here with our singing ability (or I guess I should say the other must have impressed her with their singing ability), but Michigan is a little far for us to go.
We made another stop by a member’s house that had just had surgery.  We fellowshipped and laughed a while with them and even played with their cat for a few minutes.  And then it was time to sing.  When we began to sing, the cat ran down the hall and hid in another room.  When the singing was over Mrs. Kitty walked back into the room.  I couldn’t help but laugh one lady was so impressed she wants us to travel many miles to spread some cheer to her brother, while the cat was so appalled at our singing that she ran and hid.  I guess its all a matter of perspective isn’t it? It’s all a matter of how you see things.  One saw us and loved us, one didn’t.
Sometimes running is like that as well.  Someone said don’t view your long runs as a run of 12 miles, but of 3, 4 mile segments.  In other words change the way that you look at it.  That works in life as well doesn’t it? If we look at everything or most things in life in a negative manner, it will affect us in a negative way.  But if we look at life and realize that ultimately God is in control, it will help us approach life the right way.  Paul puts in this way in Philippians 4, “finally whatsoever things are good, whatsoever things are just, are lovely, are excellent, are praiseworthy, are honorable, think about these things.”  In other words look at life through God’s perspective and realize as Paul says in Romans 8:28, “that God causes all things to work together for good for those that love the Lord.”  Sometimes we may not see that good in its entirety on this earth, but we will see it once we are in Heaven.
So keep running with Jesus, and keep running and living (and even singing) with the right perspective.
