Training for the Race of Life……Day 22 (What’s holding you back)
 Today I learned a very important lesson about running as I had to hit the treadmill fairly late last night and the lesson was simply this, don’t run an hour after you have eaten a full meal.  I met my wife and my Mom for supper last night and after supper while my wife ran some errands I asked her to drop me off at the gym so I could get in some miles on the treadmill.  I had eaten fairly healthy, grilled chicken with cheese on it, some rice and a little bit of a sweet potato, but wow did it slow me down. 
 It weighed heavily on me and definitely prevented me from getting in a good run.  But I got in a run none the less.  The problem was it took me a few minutes longer than it normally would have.  Why? Because supper was weighing me down and holding me back.
 What is holding you back in life right now?  What is slowing you down in your relationship with Jesus? For the Bible says that we should “lay aside every weight and the sin that so easily entangles us.” In other words get rid of the things in your life that slow you down.  What kind of things? Things such as worry, fear, sin, unforgiveness, and hatred.  Those things slow us down in life and they hinder our walk with Jesus.  They keep us from reaching our full potential and they may even make us want to quit.  I know from time to time last night as I ran I thought maybe I should just stop.  But I couldn’t leave the gym because I didn’t have a car so I had to stick it out. 
 The things of the world - worry, fear, sin, unforgiveness, hatred, lust, greed, idolatry, and things like that - slow us down and they may make us feel like giving up.  So why not give them up? Why not do what the Bible says and “lay aside every weight and the sin that so easily entangles us.”  Why not give those things up and become more dedicated in our relationship with Jesus.  Why not do as He said and “love the Lord your God with all of your heart, all of your mind, all of your soul, and all of your strength.”  Why not put Him first.  As we run the race of life why don’t we focus in on Him and lay the things that slow us down aside so that we can be all that we were meant to be.
 Jesus said “I have come so that you might have life and have it more abundantly” or have it to the fullest.  But we will only experience that full and abundant life as we lay the things of the world aside and get serious about following Him.  So keep running with Jesus and don’t let anything hold you back or weigh you down.
