Training for the Race of Life......Day 24 (Pursing Wisdom)

Training for the Race of Life……Day 24 (Finding wisdom)
Once again because of the cold temperatures outside I decided to run on the treadmill.  I got in a little over 5 miles before time ran out and was pretty much on my normal pace.  I’m still using the Jeff Galloway run-walk system because it is supposed to help you train injury free.  So for the first few minutes I ran for 2 minutes and then walked for a minute.  Then for the next few minutes I switched to a one run, one walk pattern.  I did this to see how much faster I would be running 2 and walking 1.  Guess what? I wasn’t any faster in fact, much to my surprise I was slower.  Galloway says that many runners will actually better there marathon or half marathon times using a 30 sec run, 30 sec recovery formula.  Or one minute on, one minute off.  I decided to prove that wrong and ended up proving it right.  Needless to say I was shocked.
This new information got me very interested in finding things out about marathon running yesterday, so I spent a few minutes surfing the web and reading a magazine about running.  But then I remembered I have a friend (The offensive coordinator for the Averett University football team), who had ran a marathon a few months ago.  So I picked up the phone and began a conversation with him.  How long did it take you, what did you eat, how hard was it, how did it feel to finish, what do those gels taste like,…… I decided that I wanted to get all of the wisdom from him that I could as I continued to prepare for April 3, 2011.
In life the Bible invites us or encourages us to get wisdom as well doesn’t it.  In fact it says “pursue wisdom and get understanding.” (Interestingly enough wisdom and understanding almost always go together in the Bible).  We should pursue wisdom in life so that we will know how to live and so that we will make the right decisions throughout life.
So how do we “get wisdom”? Well the Bible has much to say about it, but one thing it says is this: “the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom”.  In other words we should live everyday with a healthy respect or God and that will give us wisdom.  Why? Because if we respect Him it will give us the motivation we need to do the things that He wants us to do.  And doing what He wants us to do means always acting with wisdom.
God also gives us an invitation, “if anyone is lacking in wisdom, let them ask of God, and God will….” In other words if we ask God for wisdom, and we trust Him (again healthy respect) God will supply us with the wisdom that we need for life.
Life is hard and it gives us many difficult circumstances and hard decisions.  We desperately need the wisdom of God to know how to deal with those things and so that we will always make the right decisions.  Thanks be to God that He willingly gives us His wisdom as we trust Him, fear Him, and ask Him.  He will “supply all our needs according to His riches in glory,” and for that I am eternally grateful.
Keep running with Jesus and keep pursing wisdom as well.
