Training for the Race of Life.....Day 26 (Long Slow Days)

Training for the Race of Life……Day 26 (Long Slow Day)
Today on my running schedule was the long, slow day and it was a day that called for me to run 13 miles or so.  It was also a day that definitely lived up to its name as I got in the 13 miles (that’s long) in around 2 hours and 45 minutes (that’s slow).  I’ll have to say however that I felt good most of the time that I was running and that at then end even though I was extremely tired it was nice to feel a sense of accomplishment.
There were times in the run when my mind wandered, times that I felt exhilarated, times where I wanted to quit, times were my mind was just numb.  Life is kind of like that too isn’t it?  In fact in life we sometimes are faced with long, slow days aren’t we? Or even long slow weeks or months or even seasons in our life.  During those times things aren’t necessarily going good and they aren’t necessarily going bad, they are just somewhere in the middle.  They aren’t good, bad, or ugly, they are just there.  Average and routine.  And yet even in the midst of those times we don’t need to just go through the motions.  We need even then to remember that God’s “mercies are new every morning” (good days, bad days, ugly days, in between days).  And that everyday really is the “day the Lord has made” so as the Bible says “let us rejoice and be glad in it.”
Everyday is a day of celebration because everyday gives us a chance to live.  A chance to love, a chance to impact other people, and a chance to encounter God.  In our Christmas cantata Mary says, “our home wasn’t the Temple and it certainly wasn’t a palace, but on that day it became a holy place, a place of worship,” as she describes the visit of the wise men to the infant, Jesus.  She got it right didn’t she, everyday wherever we are can become a holy place, a special place, a place of worship and everyday can become a holy day, a special day, a day of worship as we realize that even on those long slow days, that God is with us and that He is the one who has given us the day, so let us spend everyday rejoicing and being glad in Him.
Keep running with Jesus on the good days, the bad days, and those in between days as well.
