Training for the Race of Life.....Day 55 (Running Outside)

Training for the Race of Life…..Day 55 (Running Outside)
What a wonderful day today has been we had a benefit breakfast at church for some friends who are experiencing a lot of medical problems with their 6 year old son.  Despite the weather (It was snowing again, and very cold) we served over 300 people.  I was amazed and very thankful for all of the help that we had that morning as well.
I had intentions on running today but was wavering somewhat on it.  After all it was 20 degrees outside and there was snow and ice on the roads.  I contemplated the treadmill but didn’t want to drive to the gym to do it.  So I was beginning to lean toward another day of rest, when a message came in: “what time do you want to run?” Or something like that, after a few minutes of sending messages I had decided to run, when the last one came in, “I’m outside in your driveway.”  Where are we going to run I thought? But the answer was obvious, outside in my neighborhood.  So I layered up and out the door we went.  Getting in a little over 4 miles before time was up.
I told my friend as we were running past the houses, “well this will give the neighbors something to talk about for sure.  The 2 crazy guys running on ice, in 20 degree weather.”  A few minutes later one of our neighbors came out to walk his dog he looked at us, smiled and said “good job guys.”  A lady at church later told me, “I wondered what on earth are they doing? Are they crazy?”
We definitely gave everyone something to talk about.  But that is how we should live isn’t it? Not calling attention to ourselves but pointing people to Jesus.  Testifying by the way that we live and by our words of His power, His awesomeness, and His love.  Long ago Augustine said, “always preach the Gospel and if necessary use words.”  In other words live your life in such a way that you cause people to talk about Jesus.  That you call attention to Him, that you point people toward His cross, His love, and His empty tomb.   He is alive and He is what we should be talking about and living for.  Keep running with Jesus and keep living so that people have something to talk about.
