Training for the Race of Life……Day 8
Improvement
- Today after Isaac’s doctor’s appointment we ran by a book store for a moment, and I managed to come out with a book on Marathon training by Jeff Galloway.  When we got home I found myself quickly engrossed in the reading and learning his way of encouraging people to run and train for marathons.
Isaac was fever free and asleep, so with him under the safe watchcare of my wife, I headed out the door to log a few miles.  I told her to turn the porch light on if she needed me and I ran through the neighborhood using Mr. Galloway’s method.  Before I knew it I had ran for over 80 minutes (with some walking) and had logged 7 miles.  I feel great tonight.  Thanks to Mr. Galloway’s method there was improvement.
In life there is always room for improvement as well isn’t there?  Paul puts it this way in 2 Corinthians 7:1, “since we have these promises beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from every defilement of body and spirit, bringing holiness to completion in the fear of God.” In other words, make sure your life is improving on a daily basis.  Allow God to cleanse you and empower you to live different than the world, to live holy lives, to live like Jesus.
That’s not easy to do is it? In fact much like running for long distances it is difficult.  So difficult in fact that we cannot do it on our own.  The only way that we can is through the Spirit of God working within us.  Through allowing His word to transform us (for that to happen we have to spend time daily reading it and studying it), and through time spent in worship, prayer, and service.
There is always room for improvement and no it isn’t easy, but it is possible.  Possible through the power of God because remember nothing is impossible for Him. So let us “run the race with perseverance”, following Jesus with the fear of the Lord.  As we improve through His Spirit each and everyday.
