Training for the Race of Life......Day 54 (Anxious)

Training for the Race of Life…..Day 54
It is shaping up to be a winter to remember.  We got more snow overnight last night which I of course enjoyed, especially since today wasn’t supposed to be a running day but instead a resting day.  I didn’t need to bundle up and head out the door, nor did I need to hop on the treadmill.  Today was about rest.
Rest and prayer because for some reason my wife and son had to go to school today.  She is a teacher and even though every other school system in the area was closed she had to go on a regular schedule.  I saw reports on the internet and how bad the road conditions were., one person said it was their worst drive into work this year.  So needless to say I was concerned about their safety.  What does the Bible tell us to do when we are concerned or anxious? “Be anxious for nothing but in everything make your requests known to God.”  So in my concern, I prayed. (And a few hours later they arrived home safely when school was let out EARLY).
As I said today was a rest day from running.  Rest is a very Biblical concept, in fact God tells us to take time to rest.  But the Biblical concept of rest doesn’t just mean sitting back on the couch and doing nothing (or worse yet becoming a vegetable in front of the TV or internet), it means taking time to refocus yourself on God.  Who He is, His power, His greatness, His majesty, His grace and love.  Today gave me a chance to do just that because when I got up in my anxiety I immediately focused on God.  And He reminded me of His faithfulness, His goodness, and His love.  All good things to think about whether you are resting or running or doing whatever.  Take time to focus on God and keep running with Jesus.
