Training for the Race of Life.....Day 25 (Freedom)

Training for the Race of Life……Day 25 (Freedom)
I will admit I am a cold weather person.  I love it when the cold winds begin to blow and summer gives way to fall and I love it even more when the snow covers the ground and the temperature stays chilly.  But over the last few mornings it has been hard because I haven’t been able to run outside.  So when the temperature hit 38 today (which has been a hot spell compared to what we have been having), I excitedly headed out the door for an evening run.  And as unbelievable as this is to me, I’m actually glad that the temperature is going to be above 40 tomorrow so I can get in my long run for the week.
Running on the treadmill is ok, but to me there is just something wonderful about being able to run outside.  I feel more free.  And freedom is always a good thing.  Even as I write these words I am extremely grateful for the men and women who have been in or are in the armed forces that have helped our country be free.  We ought to thank God for the freedom that we have in the USA.
But that is certainly not the only freedom that I am thankful for.  I’m thankful for the freedom of running outside, I’m thankful for the freedom we have in our country but even more than that I am thankful for the freedom that I have in Jesus.  What do I mean by that? I mean He has set me free from the weight of guilt.  He has set me free from sin.  Sin is a terrible thing and in many cases so is guilt.  Yet Jesus sets us free from both of these things.  He sets us free from the fear of death as well because if we know Him and have a relationship with Him, we don’t have to fear death because we know “to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.”  We also are free from the fear of judgement because as the Bible tells us when  we face judgement and God looks upon us, if we have repented of our sins and we are followers of Jesus, that God will actually see Jesus when He looks at us.  He covers us with His righteousness, so we are truly free.
Free to live, free to experience life, free to live with “great joy”, all because of Jesus.  I love running outside, there is freedom in it.  Even when I get chased by a neighborhood dog or get watched suspiciously by another one (who looked as if he was big enough to turn my run into a crawl), or even when the neighbors look at me as if I’m crazy, or even when I have to pull over and wait for a car to pass.  There is just something special, something free at least to me about being outside.  But that freedom doesn’t compare with the freedom that I have in Jesus.
Thanks to Him I am free to live.  Free to have “life and have it more abundantly”, free to be who I was created and redeemed to be.  I’m thankful for that freedom.  Keep running with Jesus and keep running and living free.
