Training for the Race of Life....Day 56 (Running Outside Reflections)

Training for the Race of Life…..Day 56 (Running Outside Reflections)
Today was a great day of worship at Sulphur Springs Baptist as God led people to come and to join the church today so I have been on cloud 9 all day.  In the midst of reflecting about what God is doing and being thankful, my mind wandered back to yesterday and once again to running outside.  As I said it was 20 degrees (actually around 23), the wind was blowing, and there was snow and ice on the roads.  I had never run in conditions like that but fortunately my running partner had.
When he came in the house the first question I asked was, “how many layers do you have on?”  Then after a few more questions we headed out the door.  As we were running I noticed that there was several extremely slick places on the road.  I slipped a little but my friend never did.  Finally the light bulb came on I need to run where he is running.  He’s done this before so follow him.  After doing that I didn’t slip anymore.
Life is a lot like that isn’t it?  Jesus lived on this earth, and even though He was tempted He never slipped.  Doesn’t it make sense then that we should follow Him? That we should “take up our cross daily and follow Him.”  That we should stop listening to the voices of the world, quit following the ways of the world and just simply follow Him.
Everything from commercials to TV shows to the internet screams at us: follow me, try our way of life, live this way.  But there is only one who has ever lived that never slipped and fell and His name is Jesus.  His invitation to us is very straightforward as it was to the disciples years ago, “come and follow Me.”  He invites us to believe in Him, to trust Him, to live life His way, and as we do we won’t slip but He will give us the strength and the wisdom to live the right way.
And here is the good news if we do slip (and we will because we are finite human beings), He picks us up.  In fact the psalmist says, “He has pulled me out of the pit.”  God picks us up, cleans us up, and gives us His grace.  Teaching us how to live and how to walk in faith.  So trust Him, follow Him, and keep running with Jesus.
