Training for the Race of Life....Day 57 (2 Things)

Training for the Race of Life……Day 57 (2 Things)
Yes, another cold snowy, snow covered day which meant another day of running on the treadmill.  Today however I decided to shake things up a little bit and do a little bit of weight lifting as well.  I got in a few sets and repetitions at a fairly quick pace.  After that I moved over to the treadmill and began to run.  As I expected it was a little harder to run after lifting the weights.
I was talking to a friend about it and he said, “its hard to do both.  It’s hard to lift and run.”  And he was right.  It really is hard to do 2 different things.  Didn’t Jesus say something fairly similar to that.  He wasn’t talking about running and lifting, He was talking about something far more important.  He was talking about life. I think He put it this way, “no one can serve God and mammon (a word that meant money, but we can substitute anything there that competes with our allegiance to God), for either they will hate the one and love the other.”  In other words it is impossible to have 2 different focus’.  We shouldn’t try to straddle the fence.
Because when we try to straddle the fence we usually end up in trouble don’t we?  I know from experience, I went exploring one night out in a field as a teenager and when a bull got after us, I jumped over a fence halfway and found myself stuck on some barbed wire.  Needless to say straddling the fence didn’t’ work well for me.  I’ve tried it a few times in my walk with Jesus as well.  Not intentionally but I have found myself at times straddling the fence.  Again things didn’t work out so well.  It never does when you straddle the fence.
When you try to serve 2 masters, you compromise yourself and quickly end up going the wrong direction in life.  The Bible says that a “double minded man is unstable in all he does.”  In other words when we have a split allegiance we become shaky.  Jesus must be our main focus, our top priority.  If not we will become shaky and we will fall.
There will probably be times in the future when I am doing a short run that I lift weights and run on the same day.  But there should never be a time in any of our lives when we try to serve 2 different masters, when we compromise ourselves and we lose focus.  We must always “Love the Lord our God with all of our heart, our mind, our soul and our strength.”  We must always, “seek first HIS Kingdom and HIS righteousness.”
Keep running with Jesus, don’t compromise.  Let Him be your focus, your very life.
