Training for the Race of Life....Day 9

Training for the Race of Life…….Day 9
Rest (part 2)
- Rain, rain go away…….We’ve all certainly heard and sung this little rhyme before haven’t we?  I know I sang it today (at least in my mind) in the hope that I would be able to head out and get a run in.  The rain finally did give way to cloudy, overcast skies but due the busyness of the day I wasn’t able to get outside and run until it was late.  It was soggy and wet then and a fog had begun to settle in, so after a few minutes I thought probably the best thing for me to do is to head back in and run on the treadmill.
Unfortunately the treadmill decided not to cooperate as it was extremely jerky when I tried to run on it.  I’ll have to admit I was frustrated because since I had made a commitment to run, I wanted to do just that and at least get a few miles in.  Regrettably that didn’t happen but in the back of my mind I knew that I needed the rest anyway.  Perhaps God was telling me to take some rest, so that I could be rested and rejuvenated for the week ahead.  And now as I write these words I definitely feel that He gave me grace through my rest tonight because admittedly it has been a tough week.  Tough because for the last couple of nights since Isaac’s seizure I have laid and just watched him sleep from about 3 until 4:30 am.  Its been tough, but God’s grace has shown through everyday.  Certainly in the rest today but also through people’s calls and messages, and most importantly prayers.  God is good all the time, even when circumstances and situations are not.
I saw that today in a fresh new way.  Again the Bible promises us “that those that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength.”  God was teaching me to wait on Him today (sometimes I’m not real good at that), and in the process renewing my strength.
My plans got changed today (they weren’t big plans) but they still got changed.  Life throws many curveballs at us doesn’t it? But even in the midst of change, changing plans, changing times, or changing whatever, God is still God, and God is still good.
I just got a message from one of my running partners to meet around 6:30 am in the morning.  I’m looking forward to heading out because God’s mercies “are new every morning.”
